  6. INTRODUCTION
  7. ------------
  8. NOSview is an on-line documentation package for the KA9Q Network
  9. Operating System (NOS).  This README file describes how to
  10. install the package.

  14. NOSVIEW INSTALLATION
  15. --------------------

  17. 1.  NOSview is supplied in .ZIP format, in a file whose name is
  18. of the form "NOSVWnnn.ZIP", where "nnn" is the current release
  19. number (shown in square brackets in the top right hand corner of
  20. this page).
  21.  
  22. For example, the first release of NOSview was supplied in file
  23. "NOSVW137.ZIP".
  24.  
  25. The files in this package are installed in two separate
  26. directories:
  27.  
  28. a.  the NOSVIEW directory holds the on-line documentation files.
  29. b.  the NOSFILES directory holds templates for NOS use.
  30.

  32. 2.  Create a new DOS directory for NOSview.  It is recommended
  33. that you locate NOSview under the NOS "public" directory, so that
  34. your users may access NOSview files on-line if they wish.

  36. For example, if your NOS public directory is C:\NOS\PUBLIC, make
  37. the directory for NOSview as follows:
  38.  
  39.     CD C:\NOS\PUBLIC
  40.     MKDIR NOSVIEW

  43. 3.  Unzip the NOSview file:
  44.  
  45.     CD C:\NOS\PUBLIC\NOSVIEW
  46.     PKUNZIP A:NOSVW137.ZIP
  47.                          (assuming the ZIP file is on drive A:)

  50. 4.  Check that all the NOSview files listed in "!RELEASE.nnn" are
  51. present:
  52.  
  53.     DIR/W                (list the files actually present)
  54.     MORE !RELEASE.137    (list the files which should be present)
  55.

  57. 5.  The list of files should include another ZIP file:
  58. "NOSFILES.ZIP".  Make a new directory for this ZIP file, then
  59. unzip the file into the new directory.  Afterwards remove the ZIP
  60. file.  For example:
  61.  
  62.     MKDIR NOSFILES
  63.     CD NOSFILES
  64.     PKUNZIP ..\NOSFILES.ZIP
  65.     DEL ..\NOSFILES.ZIP

  68. 6.  Check that all the NOSfiles listed in "!RELEASE.nnn" are
  69. present:
  70.  
  71.     DIR/W               (list the files actually present)
  72.     MORE !RELEASE.137   (list the NOSfiles which should be
  73.                                                      present)

  76. The file "!!README.3RD" in the NOSfiles directory contains
  77. installation instructions for setting up NOS.

  80. 7.  For UK users only: NOSfiles contains yet another ZIP file
  81. (DOMAINUK.ZIP), which contains a complete set of DOMAIN.TXT files
  82. for the UK (one file for each region).  Unzip this file into a
  83. separate directory if required.

  86. 8.  Install the Clockwork View TSR, by inserting the "VIEW"
  87. command (with full pathname) into AUTOEXEC.BAT; e.g.
  88.  
  89.     C:\NOS\PUBLIC\NOSVIEW\VIEW
  90.  
  91. Now reboot.  As the system boots up, you should see the message:

  95.     : Loading VIEW - Clockwork's Resident File Viewer. :
  96.     : To activate press:-       RShift and SPC         :
  97.     :..................................................:

  101. 9.  Test the operation of VIEW by pressing the right shift key
  102. and the space bar simultaneously.  The Clockwork View
  103. introduction screen should appear.  Use the PgDn and PgUp keys to
  104. examine the help menus.

  106. Then test the file viewer, by pressing F3.  The prompt
  107.  
  108.        "Load file: *.*"
  109.  
  110. should then appear.  Press Return.  This should pop up a list of
  111. files in the current directory.  Move the arrow keys up or down
  112. to select a particular file, then press Return again.  The
  113. selected file should now appear.
  114.  
  115. Use the "G" and/or "H" key to change the display format if
  116. necessary.  Finally press Escape to exit from VIEW.

  119. NOSview is now ready for use.  File "!!README.2ND" continues the
  120. story.
